Broadband and the Stimulus Package

I probably should have posted this before the other post, but whatever.

Highlights of the stimulus bill:

– $7.2 billion for broadband deployment to rural and other un-served areas

– $4.7 for net neutrality and interconnection requirements, to be determined by the NTIA and the U.S. Federal Communications Commission

– $11 billion to fund projects to modernize the nation’s electricity grid and hook it up to an Internet-based monitoring system

– does not include tax credits for broadband providers, which were included in a Senate-passed version of the bill

– does not include  broadband speed requirements that were in a House of Representatives version of the bill
